Do I need a film permit to shoot at Universal Studios Hollywood/CityWalk?

Depending on your production’s crew size, purpose of broadcast and the scope of your shoot, a film permit from the EDIC may be required.

Do we have to be union to shoot at Universal Studios Hollywood/CityWalk?

We welcome both union and non-union productions.

Can we shoot during park operating hours?

Yes, but we must have plenty of notice to work with our Operations Department to coordinate your shoot accordingly. The size and scope of the shoot in conjunction with our peak and off-peak seasons will affect the flexibility of accommodating production requests.

Can we shoot on any of the rides?

Yes—but it generally needs to happen before or after park hours. Operations will work with our clients, but is reluctant to shut down any attraction that may inhibit a guest's experience. There are some attractions you can shoot during park hours; however we are limited to only certain vantage points. With proper planning and scheduling, we can accommodate most requests.

Can we reduce the sound on a location within the park?

The Production Representative assigned to your production will coordinate all of these issues with the proper personnel to assure that your location gets the best possible sound levels. All sound manipulation is based on our Operations Department and may depend on the requirements of the production. An A/V Technician may be required to be hired to manipulate sounds zones if production is mobile.

Can we use park guests for audience members?

Once internal approvals have been received and with the proper notification we can arrange to promote a shoot through in-park collateral, in-park signage, website and email notification.

May we bring our own equipment?

Yes, however the advantage of shooting on the Universal lot is the added benefit of having immediate access to the Universal Production Services Group which includes services such as Set Lighting, Grip, Property/Drapery, Costume, Transportation, etc. (filmmakersdestination.com)

What are your hours of operation?

Universal Studios Hollywood is open everyday except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Our normal, non-peak, operating hours is 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. However, during our peak seasons (Easter, Summer, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) we extend park hours. For the most up-to-date park hours, visit the Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park’s Hour Calendar.

What is your address?

Location and Production Services is located at 100 Universal City Plaza, Bldg 5511-5, Universal City, CA 91608. For more information or to send a request, please fill out a Production Inquiry Form.

How do I obtain clearances to air branded attractions and rides?

Our Production Department can assist you in contacting our Intellectual Property partners to start the process of gaining approvals; clearance is not guaranteed and we do not speak on your behalf.  News outlets are exempt from securing clearances.  All music clearances are the sole responsibility of the production.
