What are Bluetooth beacons and how are they used in the park?

At Universal Studios Hollywood we constantly work on providing new, and exciting, technological experiences and encounters for our guests. Throughout the park, there are certain locations where we may install Bluetooth beacons. Bluetooth beacons use a low-power Bluetooth signal to one-way communicate data via our Universal Studios Hollywood Mobile Application. Bluetooth beacons “check in” your device when within proximity. If your mobile device is enabled to receive Bluetooth Low Energy signals, it can communicate with the Bluetooth beacon when installed by receiving a code which will unlock location-specific content and experiences in our Universal App to enhance the guest entertainment experience while in our theme park. You may elect to enable or disable Bluetooth Low Energy signals at any time by changing the Bluetooth Low Energy settings for the app on your mobile device. Universal may also provide ways within our Universal App to toggle off specific notifications, via the app settings on the main menu (three lines at the top left corner of the app; tap the Settings cog icon).
